President Maithripala Sirisena said on Monday that the government has drawn its attention towards recouping revenue without relying on excise duties.
The President expressed these views at the 64th anniversary celebration of the All Ceylon Excise Sergeants and Regulators Association on Monday.
The event was held at the New Town Hall in Colombo. Speaking at the event, the President said that in terms of government policy, he always attempts to look at where he can recoup state revenue , without relying on excise duties.
The president noted that as far as they know, intoxicants have been around ever since human beings evolved and throughout the world, and that we can see an increase in people using intoxicants.
The president went on to note that they are looking at how they can save the children, the youth and the people as a whole from this, adding that it is the government’s primary goal.
