Allegations have been made that the cleaning and maintenance of several areas of the City of Colombo are not taking place in a proper manner.
The News1st team toured the city on Saturday to inquire in to these allegations. Residents of Colombo are not the only ones who show a keen interest on the visually attractiveness and cleanliness of Colombo.
Colombo, considered as the main commercial city of the country, is one which highlights the country’s status on cleanliness and beauty, to the visitors from across the world.
The general public says that the keen interests on cleanliness of the city seems to be fading away.
At 10:30 on Saturday morning this was the sight witnessed in close proximity to Independence Square in Colombo 07. (Please watch video).
There was a delay in removing the garbage from near the D.S. Senanayake Memorial and the Independence Memorial Hall.
In addition , a hidden danger on the lanes allocated for exercise was also witnessed by the News 1st team.
These electricity cables supply power to light up these lanes and if it rains, the harm than can be caused by an electric leakage is not one that can be taken very lightly, small children too are seen here on a daily basis.
Several locations where improper road development had taken place were seen inundated with water as a result of the downpours experienced these days. Locals from Pothuarawa in Thalangama North have been severely inconvenienced as a result of such a situation.
The houses of these locals are inundated during a downpour.
The locals point out that the reason for this is because the renovation process of the Pothuarawa road had taken place, without due attention being given to the drainage system in the area.
When inquiries were made, Mayor of Kaduwela G.H. Buddhadasa said that he will inquire in to the issue on Monday.
