Seya Sadevmi, was laid to rest on Tuesday. Her tragic end has stirred up a broad dialogue on a more strict regulation on child protection to be enforced.
Seya Sadevmi had to bid farewell to the world after she met with a tragic end, a few days before her fifth birthday. It was confirmed on Monday that Seya Sadevmi was molested and strangled to death.
Although no arrests have been made as yet, police are carrying out their investigation on a number of leads.
Police have placed their suspicions on facts such the girl’s clothes lying on the bed, one of the three windows of the room not secured and left open and the main door of the house left unattended. The house is located 200 metres away from the location where the lifeless body of litte Seya was found.
Therefore, suspicions have arisen that she could have been molested and murdered by someone who was familiar with the surroudnings
People who gathered at the funeral to pay their last respects to this little girl who met and untimely death are of the view that this incident should be investigated and that the time has come to take action to prevent such heinous crimes.
During the funeral of Seya, a woman who visited the house related a similar situation that one of her relatives had to face. During the past many such gruesome incidents came to light. One of those incidents was the gang-rape of Sivaloganathan Vidya in Jaffna.
Later, three year old Chandrakumara Perusa was raped and killed in Kilinochchi.
