Speaker Karu Jayasuriya says the Independent Commissions will be established in October. The speaker made the following remarks subsequent to visiting His Eminence Cardinal Malcom Ranjith and obtaining blessings.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said that, unlike certain incidents that took place in parliament previously, now they feel blessed to be in a parliament that is recognised across the world. He also added that the authority has been given to ministers and the opposition where the opposition MPs have a significant role according to the system proposed by the Prime Minister.

Speaking further, he also said that through thatm the committees are entrusted with powers of the ministers, adding that by next week the Constitutional Council will be fully functional.

The Speaker also mentioned that they taking every possible effort to commence the activities of the independent commisions by next month.
