The cash safe of a fuel station in the Bandaragama town had been looted early Sunday morning. Police said that three masked persons who had arrived in a white van had committed the theft. The thieves had intimidated the owner of the establishment and made away with the cash.

Police added that investigations are underway to locate the suspects. Moreover, an individual was arrested for attempting to enter the safe room of a state bank in the Ingiriya town.

They went on to note that the suspect had attempted to enter the room through the roof. During the break-in the security alarm of the bank had been activated and when the police had called the bank, the phone call had been answered by the suspect.

Police had become suspicious over the incident and dispatched a team to the bank following which the suspect was arrested.
