The Sri Lankan Consulate General in Jeddah stated that investigations are underway to find out if Sri Lankans are trapped at the scene of the accident that was caused when a crane collapsed in the Muslim holy city of Mecca.
First Secretary to the Consulate M.B.M Sarook stated that a team of officers has been entrusted with investigations.
At least 107 people died and more than 230 people were injured when a huge red crane crashed into a part of the Grand Mosque that was filled with worshipers at the time.
The head of Saudi Arabia’s civil defense said strong winds and heavy rains had caused the collapse.
