A special workshop was conducted for parliamentarians  at the parliamentary complex on Thursday under the patronage of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Speaking at the occasion the Prime Minister stated that he has asked the Speaker to provide a list of new MPs who were elected to the Parliament for the first time after the conclusion of parliamentary session, adding that only those in the list will be granted money through the decentralised fund.

PM Wickremesinghe also noted that he would take steps to resume the parliamentary live broadcast which will ensure that the public can see who attends parliament, and who doesn’t.

Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, addressing the Parliamentarians noted that the current administration can be described as one which has a new political vision. He noted that the existing opposition has been vested with greater responsibilities and also noted that the role of special committees will be strengthed, allowing them to act in a more efficent manner and safeguard public funds.

UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative Subinay Nandy also attended the event held at the parliamentary complex.
