The walk which was organised to campaign for an international investigation into alleged human rights violations which commenced in Kilinochchi reached Palai on Friday.

The walk saw the participation of Northern Provincial councilors MK Sivajilingam and Ananthi Sasitharan.

The five-day walk is scheduled to be held in a number of areas of the Northern Province.

TNA Northern Provincial Councillor,M.K. Sivajilingam noted that an international inquiry is required and justice will be meted out to the Tamil people only if that comes into effect, and those accountable need to be punished

TNA Northern Provincial Councillor, Ananthi Sasitharan noted that people are rendering their support for this endeavour and this walk is being carried out in a successful manner

Relatives of the disappeared in the Mulliwaikal area joined the walk.

The State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene stated that the President and the Prime Minister have made it clear that we do need to have an International Investigation. So we will conduct a domestic investigation and we have made the preparations for that, he stated.

He added:

We have held discussions with the international community and the United States of America has expressed its faith that Sri Lanka can conduct a domestic investigation and we will implement it in the coming months. So, I do not think we require an international investigation and we will not permit an international investigation. So, the accepting of signatures of that initiative will bear no fruit.
