Srimali Samarakoon and Roshan Dammika Ranatunga won silver for Sri Lanka at the Youth Commonwealth Games in the women’s weightlifting and high jump events.
The fifth Commonwealth Youth Games are currently underway in the Pacific island nation of Samoa. Incidentally, this is the largest sporting event to be held in the Pacific Islands.
Roshan Dhammika Ranatunga cleared a height of 2.1 metres to win Silver in the Men’s High Jump. Meanwhile, Srimali Samarakoon, won silver in the 48 kilogramme women’s weightlifting event.
She lifted 54 kilogrammes in the snatch and 71 kilogrammes in the clean and snatch. eight athletes are representing Sri Lanka at the games.
