The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption says that legal action has been initiated against sixteen persons of various stature, over the past eight months.

In a communique issued by the Commission, it is said that the 16 individuals include two former cabinet ministers, two former parliamentarians and eight former chairmen of state corporations.

In addition, complaints have been received against two former director generals of state corporations, three former Pradeshiya Sabha members, and two former mayors.

The Communique states that, according to the provisions drawn up by the Bribery Act, the Commission would carry out investigations against these individuals in an unbiased manner, devoid of any political agendas.

The Commission says it regrets the accusations levelled against the actions of its Commissioners using various individuals, which were completely false and baseless.

The communique states that if the investigation into a complaint filed deviated from the normal process, the Director General involved would have to bear responsibility for the said deviation.
