Superfighter’s Nuwan Amarawansha claims victory at Amateur Boxing Tournament

Nuwan Amarawansha, the young boxer who came into the limelight via the reality sports programme Superfighter, has claimed victory in the Bantamweight category in the Amateur Boxing Tournament.

Speaking to Sports1st on Sunday, Nuwan noted that it is his goal to win an Olympic medal in boxing for his country.

Nuwan Amarawansha won gold in the 56 kilogramme Bantamweight category, winning all five of his bouts at the Amateur Boxing Tournament.

W.A.M.S. Kumara of the Sri Lanka Army team was defeated by Nuwan in the final bout.

A student of the Peradeniya Central College, Nuwan Amarawansha commenced his boxing career through Superfighter, Sri Lanka’s first Sports Reality programme, organised by MTV and MBC, News 1st, MAS Holdings and the Sri Lanka Amateur Boxing Association.

He emerged the runner up in the 56 kilogramme weight category in the Superfighter Tournament.

Nuwan, who has claimed his spot as a champion in his first national level tournament, is currently training with the MAS Linear Sports Club.
