Discussions have commenced between constituent parties of the United People’s Freedom Alliance to contest under a new alliance at the next election.
According to the leader of the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya, Udaya Gammanpila, six parties are at the discussions.
Gammanpila stated that the Democratic Left Front and the National Freedom Front have already expressed their views at the discussions and also noted that, though the SLFP has already broken away from the UPFA and has formed an alliance with the United National Party, there is belief that many in the Sri Lanka Freedom party will join in the alliance along with the constituent parties of the UPFA.
Meanwhile, leaders of the United People’s Freedom Alliance has met with President Maithripala Sirisena this morning.
According to the Leader of the National Freedom Front Wimal Weerawansa, several factors such as the need to create an administration opposing the UNP and also the harmful political effects in appointing the UNP as a partner of the SLFP or the UPFA, were put forward at the meeting.
