Former Minister Athauda Seneviratne, convening a media briefing in Dehiowita on Friday expressed views on the party suffering defeat at the elections.

The former minister noted:

We suffered defeat because of the Mahinda faction and the other factions that were created in this district – and the party was divided.

He futher added:

They said not to vote for the Maithri faction citing that, if you vote for them, they will later cross to the UNP. And that is why they mentioned three names and told the people not to vote for us. So, we worked for the presidential election to make the former president victorious and at that time the people were divided and they wanted their votes, and so the the sole reason for this defeat is because of  persons operating as Mahinda’s people
