Convening a media briefing at its headquarters on Thursday, members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party expressed their views on the formation of a national government.

Speaking at the event, Treasurer of the SLFP S.B. Dissanayake stated that a conspiracy was planned with a propaganda campaign which said that they should not be voted in as they will cross over to the UNP after the election, resulting in President Maithripala Sirisena entering a few from the SLFP to Parliament through the National List.

Also, answering questions raised by journalists at the briefing, the acting general secretary of the SLFP Duminda Dissanayake stated that the appointments made through the National lLst were done ethically, despite the public saying that they are not ethical. Dissanayake explained that if one were to weigh the two national lists and the politics behind it, they both weigh the same.

Speaking on forming a National Government, the acting general secretary also stated that the SLFP has not signed an agreement with the UNP to form a national government but just agreed on how the SLFP and UNP would function in a National Government.

He also stated that Douglas Devananda and Thondaman have also expressed their willingness for the new political culture and added that they want to join hands with the programne

Views were also expressed on the statement made by US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Nisha Biswal that the US wants to support a domestic mechanism which would address matters pertaining to reconciliation and accountability.
