Susil Premajayantha, in a letter to president Maithripala Sirisena, says he will resign from his post as general secretary of the United Peoples Freedom Alliance.
In his letter to the president he says he was not actively involved in any decision making process over the recent days due the legal limitations imposed, while serving as the general secretary of the UPFA.
He also says that he is saddened by the fact that representatives of political parties that partnered with the UPFA have not understood the current situation and have misled the public by making various statements to the media.
He adds that he is disappointed over the actions of certain UPFA partners who failed to speak on keeping the UPFA together in order to secure 95 seats in parliament.
