The first Randoli Perahera of Sri Lanka’s premier Buddhist procession, the historic Esala Perahera in the hill capital of Kandy, will parade the streets on Tuesday.

The final Kumbal Perahera of the Esala Perahera Festival of the Kandy historic Sri Dalada Maligawa paraded the streets on Monday night. The casket of the sacred relics was carried by the Indiraja Tusker in the fifth and final Kumbal Perahera’s of the Esala Festival.

The Miyan Raja and Nuruma Raja tuskers also followed in procession. The Basnayake Nilama of the Pattini Devalaya in Kandy, Rohan Parangama headed the procession representing the Diyawadana Nilame of the Temple of the Sacred tooth relic.

The first Randoli Perahera of the Temple of the Sacred tooth relic will commence parading the streets at the auspicious time of 07.42 on Tuesday and will move along Dhalatha Street, D.S Senanayake Street, Temple Road, Deva Street, Colombo Street and re-enter D.S.Senanayake Street before returning to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.
