India took control of the second test match against Sri Lanka, closing day three at 70 for the loss of 1 for a 157-run lead with nine second innings wickets in hand.
Sri Lanka resumed day three with an overnight score of 140 runs for the loss of three wickets. However. Sri Lanka lost momentum at regular intervals losing several key wickets. Leg-spinner Amit Mishra took four wickets to help India gain an 87-run first innings lead by dismissing Sri Lanka for 306.
Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews scored his sixth test century and was out for 102 and he was supported by half-centuries from Lahiru Thirimanne on 62 and Kaushal Silva with 51.
India lost first innings centurion Lokesh Rahul bowled by seamer Dhammika Prasad with the total on just three. At stumps India on their second innings were 70 for the loss of one wicket.
