Further discussions are underway on the forming of a national government between the United National Party and the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. Another discussion in this regard took place at the Presidential Secretariat under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday.

The discussions centered on topics such as establishing and implementing the national government and the role of the SLFP in terms of co-operation.

John Seneviratne said:

We held discussions with the president and we will meet again tonight and we have discussed certain points and reached an agreement. But we have more things to discuss between both side.

When asked if they have reached a definite understanding on this merger, he stated:

No, we did not speak of that because we only spoke on the foundation of working together and that the Central Working Committee of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party has taken a decision on the national government. The President is taking measures on moving the members accordingly
