Security sources in Egypt say a state security building in northern Cairo was the target of a series of bombs in the early hours of Thursday morning.
State media said six people were injured by three explosions in the northern Shubra district of the capital.
Many have hit Egyptian security forces and militants in northern Sinai affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) group have vowed to continue targeting them.
No one has yet claimed to have carried out Thursday’s attack in the capital.
