After a devastating innings of 183 in the 1st innings Sri Lanka managed pull off a sensational 63 run win as Rangana Herath managed to pick up 7 for 48 by allowing India to suffer a record breaking loss during the 1st Test match held at the Galle International Stadium.
India who began proceedings on Day, 4 went into bat needing just 153 runs with 9 wickets in hand. Dropped in the last match of the series against Pakistan and lacking the bite in the first innings, Herath put more body into the ball, bowled hardly a bad ball in 21 overs, went past Bishan Bedi to become the third-most successful left-arm spinner in Test history, and registered the second-best figures in Galle.
This is also the second instance where India have lost a Test chasing a target of 200 runs or less, previously being against West Indies in 1997.
