Deploying of officers and other facilities for the parliamentary elections that will take place on Monday August 17 has already commenced.
Police says that every required measure will be taken to uphold the law and maintain peace during the next two days and also during the post-election period.
The Elections Secretariat announced that 125,000 state officers will be deployed for election duty.
Around 70,000 state employees are expected to be engaged in the counting of votes. Ballot boxes were dispatched to the chief counting centres for a number of districts on Saturday. These ballot boxes will be moved to the polling centres on the morning of Sunday August 16.
Police teams assigned for the security during the election period have started to report to their respective locations.Inspector General of Police N.K.Illangakoon said that the police is committed towards a free , fair and peaceful election.
