The petition filed in the Supreme Court against UPFA Kurunegala District Candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa being engaged in election propaganda with an extensive amount of people as opposed to other candidates, was withdrawn by the petitioner.
The petition was filed by the Nawa Sama Samaja Party national list candidate Attorney-at-Law Senaka Perera.
The petition sought the reduction of the level of security afforded to Mahinda Rajapaksa claiming it was disadvantageous to other candidates.
Attorneys-at-law appearing on behalf of the petitioner stated, however, that taking up the petition would be futile, as there were only a few hours left until the conclusion of election propaganda.
The petitioner’s lawyers also informed court that regardless of Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory or defeat at the election, they would file a petition challenging his appointment.
