The Sri Lankan batting was kept at bay by the Indian bowling attack in their first test match in Galle.

The home team struggled with the Indian bowling as R.Ashwin managed to pick up six wickets in his spell of 13.4 overs. Angelo Mathews put up 64 runs on the board and Diniesh Chandimal chipped in with 59 runs.

The day ended with the visting team being put in to bat earlier than expected when Sri Lanka was bowled out for 183. India put up 129 runs on the board for the loss of two wickets.
