The citizen awareness campaign being conducted under the theme Don’t vote for drug dealers, fraudsters and corrupt politicians, commenced from the Galle and Nuwara Eliya Districts on Wednesday August 12.
The campaign is a joint initiative of News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi, together with the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections or CaFFE.
The campaigning got underway on Wednesday in Ambalangoda, in the Galle district as well as in the Nuwara Eliya town. The campaign aims to raise awareness among the public to exercise their franchise in order to ensure that suitable candidates are voted into parliament. Handbills and stickers were distributed among the people of Matara, ingraining in them the message to elect clean candidates to parliament.
The campaign is to reach Nawalapitiya and Kosgoda later Wednesday. Meanwhile, the team that commenced the campaign in the Nuwara Eliya town distributed leaflets today. Crowds came together to sign the pledge to elect suitable persons to the legislature.
The Don’t campaign is expected to reach Colombo on August 14.
