The Police Department has taken measures to beef up security in areas across the country ahead of the elections. Thereby 24,798 police officers will be dispatched on election day and the day after. Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said that 24,798 police officers will be dispatched to ensure security in all polling stations. They will commence their duties on the morning of August 16.

He added that police officers will also engage on patrol in 2885 locations on August 16, 17, and 18 if needed. Eleven thousand five hundred and forty (11,540) police offices will be deployed for this purpose.One hundred and sixty one (161) anti riot squad officers have also been appointed in several police offices.
