According to the Commissioner General Prisons Rohana Pushpakumara, security has been tightened at prisons as information has come to light that imprisoned underworld members may be involved in incidents that take place in Colombo and its suburbs.
The Commissioner General noted that this special security measure was taken following the recovery of two mobile phones from the prison cell of a suspect, identified as Dematagoda Chaminda, who is incidentally a member of a criminal gang.
Pushpakumara went on to say that the Superintendent of the Colombo remand prison has been transferred to the Prisons Headquarters with immediate effect while an Assistant Superintendent at the Welikada Prison has been moved to the Colombo Remand Prison as the Superintendent.
