Nearly two weeks remain for the general elections and leaders of political parties remain unrelenting in their campaign speeches.
News1st takes a look at a cross-section of their opinions.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, speaking in Hasalaka, said that he will give opportunies to the rural economy, adding that they have allocated money to buy paddy at the price of Rs. 50 per kilogramme this season.
Leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, speaking at a rally held in Negombo, noted that there are certain people who are under the impression that if they support Mahinda and get on his stage they will be able to become an MP, adding that the person who mourned the father’s death is also hugging him now.
He went onto note that when the elections are over Mahinda will only be an MP and that very same group of people will go back to hugging Maithirpala Sirisena.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Democratic Party Sarath Fonseka said that in order to halt drug peddling they will defintely impose the death sentence on those who bring drugs to the country.
