An edition of the series of Sadaham Yathra Dhamma Sermons held on every Poya Day, took place at the historical Kala Wewa Vijithapura Raja Maha Viharaya on Friday.
The event, which was held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena, commenced with a sermon delivered by Venerable Professor Vijithapurey Vilarathana Thero.
Under the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, on every full moon Poya Day, a main viharaya in the country is selected to conduct the Sadhaham yathra Dhamma Sermon.
The aim of this programme is to take the message of Buddhism to the villages.
Following the sermon, President Maithripala Sirisena paid homage at the Aukana Rajamaha Viharaya.
The first pooja ceremony of the renovated Abhayagiri Stupa too took place under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The renovated Abhayagiri Stupa was reopened to the faithful today.
Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, Professor Prishantha Gunawardene said that a sum of Rs.5500 million was spent of the renovation activities of the Abayagiri Stupa.
History states that the Abhayagiri stupa was built by King Walagamba who ruled the Anuradhapura kingdom in the 1st century A.D., and is one of the three main stupas that were built in the Anuradhapura era.
