The National Anti-Drug Drive, organised by News 1st, Sirasa and Shakthi together with the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, continued in the North Western Province on Sunday, July 26.

An individual we met in the Mundalama area in Puttalam has been addicted to marijuana for a very long time. He argued with us at first but he reacted differently once we educated him on the negative impacts of his addiction. Not stopping at an ideological reaction, he went on to burn before our eyes the stock of marijuana he had hidden in his house.

Amidst an overwhelming response, we carried out our door-to-door campaign in the Udappuwa, Mundalama and Madurankuliya areas in the Puttalam District. During our visits we met with those who deal drugs and those who use it.

Officials of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board educated these people on how to free them selves from addiction and on the services made available by the board.

Yet another phase to educate the public on the negative impacts of the use of drugs was carried out in the Kurunegala District of the North Western Province for the second day. The programme, which got underway in Gatuwana, was conducted in Malkaduwawa and Yanthampalawa.

The drivem which is being organized with the aim of creating a healthy society, will visit the Uva Province next week.
