The Elections Secretariat has taken strong measures to prevent the violation of election laws ahead of the Aug. 17 general elections.
Police arrested two individuals who were pasting posters in the Polgampola area in Meegahathenna, Kalutara. Police stated that the suspects possessed 1,540 posters belonging to a UNP candidate at the time of their arrest.
Meanwhile, the name of Harin Fernando that was depicted with a symbol has been removed by election officials. The posters depicting the candidate’s name were pasted on fleet of vehicles that were parked opposite the party office in the Kailagoda Junction in Badulla.
Police officers also took steps to remove loudspeakers that were fixed outside a hall where a meeting was being convened by Minister Rajitha Senaratne.
