A pickup truck with fake number plate indicating it belongs to the Sri lanka Army was seized by the police in Kebithigollawa for transporting election posters.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera, speaking to News 1st, said that posters of former deputy minister and UPFA Anuradhapura district candidate Weerakumara Dissnayake were being transported in the vehicle.

At around 2:30 a.m. on July 24, police arrested two individuals who were illegally pasting posters using more than 4,500 posters and a cab, which was alsoas seized by the police. ASP Gunasekera said the number plate of the cab had been altered and was using a fake number plate when it was seized. The suspects are to be produced before Kebithigollewa Magistrate

Meanwhile, authorities have decided that the distribution of applications for the ballot papers for the parliamentary elections will commence on July 30.

15,044,491 ballot papers have been printed and will be handed over to the postal department on July 29. Postmaster Rohana Abeyrathna said that the distribution of ballot papers will commence the next day. Steps have also been taken to securely deliver the packets of postal vote applications to the postal department on July 24.
