Police say they have arrested three suspects connected to the gang-rape of a 15-year-old girl in the Polhunnawe area, Meetiyagoda.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera stated that the girl was gang raped in the Ambalangoda and Dikwella areas.

The victim was taken from her home on July 1, allegedly by the sister of a youth with whom she had an affair. According to the information police have received thus far, the suspects had planned to lure the girl to Matara where they planned to rape her but the girl was found when her family, with the assistance of the police acted on a tip-off they received that the girl was with three individuals at the Ambalangoda bus station.

The victim was first admitted to the Balapitiya Base Hospital, after which she was transferred to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further treatment. The police said that a search operation is underway for the female suspect and another individual.
