Several views were expressed at main campaigning rallies of the UPFA and the UNP.

Speaking in Madawachchiya, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said that Mahinda Rajapaksa governed the country for 10 years and only gave life to his party, adding that the slogan should not be “Let’s give life to the country” but rather “Let’s give saline to Mahinda.”

The prime minister said that he lived in the town to strengthen the economy of the village and ensured that they will create one million job opportunities in the next five years. He said he will create a state that will see economic development.

Meanwhile, Kurunegala District UPFA Candidate Mahinda Rajapaksa speaking at Ridigama noted that he had six years left but went into the election with two years remaining, adding that is where he was mistaken.

Speaking further, he noted that others eat ham and bacon yet they speak of the fish he eats. The former president also added that the villager knows the necessities of the villager, and not the people who eat ham and bacon in Colombo 7.
