Nominations ahead of the August 17 General Elections will be handed out on Monday July 13. The Elections Secretariat called for submissions of nominations and placing of bonds on July 6, and the processes will conclude at 12 noon, Monday July 13.
Meanwhile, leaders of several coalition parties of the United People’s Freedom Alliance officially joined the United National Front for Good Governance by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Temple Trees, on Sunday.
The MoU of the United National Front for Good Governance was first signed by UNP Leader, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Venerable Athureliya Rathana Thero and Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka of the Jathika Hela Urumaya.
The MoU states that the country’s unity and territorial integrity will be accepted during political conventions on the country’s peace and reconciliation. Meanwhile, another MoU was signed by Ministers Rajitha Senaratne, Arjuna Ranatunga and M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena for the Progressive Group of the SLFP.
In line with this occasion, Minister Rajitha Senaratne signed nominations from Kalutara, Minister Arjuna Ranatunga from Gampaha and Minister M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena from Trincomalee – all under the symbol of the elephant.
Meanwhile, a special traffic plan will be in place on Monday July 13, around the Colombo District Secretariat situated in Narahenpita, in line with the handing over of nominations.
Police Headquarters said that the special traffic plan will be in effect in Narahenpita and its surrounding areas, and on Elvitigala Mawatha from 7 a,m. until 3 p.m. on Monday. Police said that vehicular traffic on all roads leading to the Narahenpita junction will be halted periodically.
Police advises motorists to use alternative routes during this time period.
