Upon preparing their nominations for the upcoming general election, the United People’s Freedom Alliance convened a media briefing at the Opposition Leader’s Office in Colombo.

General Secretary of the UPFA Susil Premajayantha added that the party has taken steps to provide a nomination to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa as a UPFA candidate from the Kurunegala District and that nominations were prepared by a board appointed by His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena.

He noted that the preparation of nominations was a challenging affair this time around since there was a massive group who were hoping for nominations. He added that at the same time, they had to take several policy decisions and the nominations committee came under immense pressure while preparing the nominations.

Former UPFA MP Dullas Alahapperuma noted that there is no surprise and disappointment at all about their ‘good friend’ Rajitha Senaratne, since changing parties is easier for him than removing a tooth.

He added: In Sinhalese culture we believe that the snake which travels on the elephants back is evil. As a party member, I am deeply saddened and disappointed about the journey of Arjuna Ranatunga. The one national movement enacted under the leadership of Minister Champika Ranawaka has become like a woodapple at present and it has become food for the elephant.
