The creation of a United National Front to represent good governance was approved by the United National Party Convention on Saturday, July 11. The convention took place under the auspices of Party Leader Ranil Wickeremesinghe.

The fundamental policies that will be followed by the UNP during the upcoming elections were presented at the UNP Convention  held in Campbell Park Borella. It was also announced that the price of a domestic gas cylinder will be reduced by Rs.100 from July 15 while the price of rice sold by Sathosa will also be reduced from the same day.

Leader of UNP, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stated that those who were sent home must stay home. One million job opportunities will be created in another five years as he himself promised. He added that a team will be formed to go after the rogues and the lands that were reclaimed from the people in the North, East and Colombo will be returned.

He went on to note that the constitutional council will be limited to three members as they will make provision for the devolution of power within a united state. Deputy Leader of the UNP, Minister Sajith Premadasa stated that the persons who were elected as President twice is scared of the cabinet minister and put forth a challenge asking the him to contest from Hambantota by erasing the city Kurunegala.

General Secretary of the UNP, Kabir Hasheem stated that the United National Front to represent good governance will be approved, and invited all the forces that worked to build the future of the nation to join with them.
