Speaking on Saturday, July 11, the JVP continued to maintain its stance that it will contest in the parliamentary elections separately, as the nomination list for all districts have been compiled at the party headquarters in Battaramulla.
District group leaders and JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake signed the nomination papers on Saturday.
Dissanayake stated that former president Mahinda Rajapaksa and incumbent president Maithripala Sirisena have reached a form of consensus as it has become the most disgraceful relationships.
He went on to note that the ones who were at loggerheads with the UNP are now forming alliance with them. Therefore, he said, these two factions have clearly shown that they would resort to any form of disgraceful and shameful act in order to obtain power. He said the JVP will be engaged in an election campaign that will have no ill effect on their relationship with the people during this election
JVP Uva Provincial Councillor Samantha Vidyaratna stated that there was an attempt to ban crossovers through the 19th Amendment, but that a group from the UPFA and the UNP did not allow for that. He added that the JVP will not create MPs who can be bought.
