Elections Commissioner, Mahinda Deshapriya, speaking to the media. noted that nominations will be accepted on the 13th of this month from 8 a.m. till noon and called on candidates to submit their nominations as early as possible.
The elections commissioner also urged individuals not to submit nominations with the sole aim of expressing support for a another candidate.
Mahinda Deshapriya reminded the candidates that organising of public processions or vehicle parades prior to handing nominations, when handing in nominations or immediately after handing nominations, is deemed illegal under election laws. The commissioner warned that if any such activities take place the police have been instructed to take necessary measures and have been instructed to take record of such parades or processions.
In conclusion, the elections commissioner called on candidates and party supporters not to engage in any actions that could disrupt the activities of students who will be sitting for their GCE Advanced Level Examination in August.
