A group on July 10 protested against former UPFA member, R. Duminda Silva being denied nominations to contest the polls.
The group gathered opposite the SLFP Headquarters located down Darley Road, Colombo 10 and requested that Duminda Silva be provided with nominations. The demonstration hampered vehicular movement in the area. Demonstrators then marched to the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo where SLFP nominations were being signed.
A policeman at the demonstration noted that this is illegal, according to election laws, as protests and marches are illegal after the 6th. The policeman said that therefore the march was illegal and the road obstruction is an offence according to Article 55/1.
