Democratic Party leader Sarath Fonseka to contest from Colombo

Sixty-one independent groups had placed bonds for the parliamentary polls by Thursday, July 9, evening; and several political parties too had handed in their nominations.

From the Colombo District, Leader of the Democratic Party Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka will be contesting the general election. The Democratic Party, which will be contesting from Colombo under the leadership of group leader Naleen Pradeep Udawela, handed in their nominations on Thursday.

Dhanuna Thilekaratne will also be contesting the election from the Democratic Party alongside Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka. In addition, Anoma Fonseka submitted nominations from the Gampaha District on Thursday representing the Democratic Party.

Also from the Gampaha District, the Janasetha Peramuna and an independent group had also submitted nominations to contest from the Gampaha District on Thursday.

In from the Kandy District, the Frontline Socialist Party and also the Janasetha Peramuna too submitted nominations for Kandy.

Further south to the Galle District, the Front-line Socialist Party handed in their nominations for the Galle District on Thursday under the patronage of Group Leader Ajith Kumara.

Meanwhile, the Frontline Socialist Party will be contesting the general election from the Kegalle District as well as the Janasetha Peramuna submitted nominations for the Kegalle District on Thursday.
