General Elections: Political parties begin submitting nominations

Accepting on nominations for the 2015 general election commenced on Monday and so far two political parties have submitted nominations.

Speaking to News1st, Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohammed noted that the Janasetha Peramuna has submitted nominations for the Jaffna, Vanni and Anuradhapura districts, while the All Ceylon Tamil Congress submitted the nominations for the Digamadulla district.

Twenty five independent groups also submitted their bonds yesterday for districts including Colombo, Gampaha, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara , Batticaloa, Digamadulla, Trincomalee, Kurunegala, Polannaruwa, Badulla, Moneragala , Ratnapura and Kegalle. A total of 39 independent groups have placed bonds to contest the upcoming general election.

Meanwhile, accepting of postal voting application began on Monday July 6. Deputy Elections Commissioner M.M. Mohamed noted that the election secretariat would accept applications for postal voting till July 14.
