Leader of the National Unity Front Azath Salley called on the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri chapters to receive blessings July 5 morning where he stated that efforts are being made to prevent him from receiving a nomination to contest from the Kandy District.

The leader of the National Unity Front noted that they have requested nominations this time as well and that the United National Party is using the Venerable Thera’s name saying that you told them to only allow two Muslims to be inserted into a list of 15 persons, to which the chief prelate of the Asgiri Sect. Ven. Galagama Sri Aththdassi Thera replied that one consulted him about such a thing and he never said such a thing.

Thereafter, Azath Salley called on the chief prelate of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siam Sect. most venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thera where he addressed the journalists who were present at the location noting that the newest agenda of the United National Party is to reduce the number of Muslim representatives from all districts including Colombo and Kandy and that they have said that they need someone who is straightforward to contest in the upcoming election.

He added that we will not do anything to break the chief incumbent’s faith in them and that if the party cannot ally with the United National Party then we will contest as an independent party from the Kandy District.
