General Secretary of United People’s Freedom Alliance, Susil Premajayantha announced onFriday that the UPFA has decided to hand nomination to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa to contest the August polls.
The statement issued on Friday evening reads thatthis decision was taken at the meeting of the Leader of the UPFA on Thursday which was presided over by President Maithripala Sirisena.
Susil Premajayantha says that the nominations for the UPFA will be formulated in the coming days.
The statement goes on to say that once the handing of nominations are over, the UPFA elections operations will commenced with the participation of the parties in the alliance.
