The Constitutional Council which was introduced as part of the 19th Amendment to the constitution, convened for the first time on Friday July 3.
The meeting took place at the Speaker’s Official Chambers in Parliament.
A communique issued by the speaker’s media unit noted that members of the constitutional council , Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Wijedasa Rajapaksha, W.D.J. Seneviratne and R. Sampathan attended the meeting.
The communique also noted that the prime minister had expressed views on a methodology to obtain applications for the appointment of members for commission which will look in to the undisrupted proceedings of Council.
General Secretay of Parliament, Dhammika Dasanayake has been appointed as the acting secretary of the constitutional council
