CBK says she will contest elections if Rajapaksa is given nomination

Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga has decided that she too would also contest the election if former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is given nomination to contest the next in the general election.

This statement was made by the Secretary to former president Kumaratunga , P. Dissanayake. He further stated that if he contests under the ticket of a Sri Lanka Freedom Party led alliance, Former President Kumaratunga too would contest for the post of Prime Minister and that she has the right to do so.

Former president Kumaratunga’s Secretary further noted that, it is the party that was founded by her father and she has a 63 percent voter base, and that she has no allegations of murder and bribery against her. He went on to add that she did not leave defeated and that she would only contest, if he contests as the Chief Organiser of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party and that his return through a combination of small parties is no worry.
