Engaging in a tour held in Kandy, former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga stated that she has no intention of regaining power.

In line with her 70th birthday, former president Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga called on the Chief Prelates of the Asgiriya and Malwathu Chapters of the Siam Sect, on Monday, June 29.

The former president who called on the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter of the Siam Sect Most Venerable Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero, engaged in discussions with the most venerable thero for nearly two hours.

She also called on the Chief Prelate of the Asigiri Chapter of the Siam Sect Most Ven. Galagama Sri Aththadhasi Thero. She was questioned by journalists regarding rumours spreading on handing over of nominations to former president Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Former president, Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga stated that she will not speak about politics since she is not a counsellor and she doesn’t have any powers.

A journalist raised a question asking whether she will be contesting for the post of prime minister as it was seen in a newspaper.

She stated that she is not greedy for power as she stepped down from politics after serving for twelve long years. The reason for this is that she has not stolen nor killed or committed any wrong doing therefore do not have anything to hide.

She went on to note that those who want to come into power are the ones who are attempting to hide their wrong-doings under the carpet. She stated that she will give her full support to build the nation

She added that they do not take notice of individuals in the calibre of Wimal Weerawansa who are “not even worth a cent.”
