Public signatures programme for March 12th Declaration reaches Kurunegala

The national programme launched to obtain one million signatures for the March 12th Declaration for clean politics reached in Kurunegala on June 26.

The March 12th Declaration contains the criteria for political political parties providing nominations. The primary objective of the March 12th movement, which is organised by 21 organizations including PAFFREL, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, Transparency International, The Bar Association of Sri Lanka and the Ceylon Teachers Union, is to fulfill an effective duty to create a good political culture in the country.

The aims of the March 12th Declaration include eight fundamental criteria that should be taken into account by all political parties when submitting nominations.The March 12th movement will to the country to urge the masses to vote for suitable candidate and for political parties to nominate suitable persons to contest the parliamentary elections.

The rally, which commenced in Colombo on June 25, reached Kurunegala earlier today. The awareness programme then commenced at the Kurunegala town, where signatures were collected from the public.

Today’s rally is set to conclude in Anuradhapura and the rally will tour the island until July 4.
