The first ever Korean Ambassador’s Kukkiwon Cup Taekwondo Championship commenced in Colombo on June 26.
The championships were organised by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea together with the Ministry of Toursism and Sports and the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, along with around 1000 Taekwondo competitors from sports clubs and schools took part in the championships.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Won-sam Chang, stated that the intention is to further consolidate the bilateral relationships between the two countries by promoting mutual respect, goodwill and friendship at grassroot level through cultural exchanges. He added that the Korean Embassy will continue to strengthen the cultural and people to people exchanges in the coming years.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Association, WPC Harshana Rajakaruna said they are thankful for the efforts that have been undertaken to bring closer the relations that prevail between Sri Lanka and South Korea, and that South Korea has managed to trassform itself in to one of the most developed countries in the world and as Sri Lankans, there is alot to learn from the Korean nationals.
Representatives from the Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea and others were present for the event Friday morning.
