Chairman of the COPE Committee, MP D.E.W. Gunasekera says that evidence that were received as part of investigations carried out into the alleged irregularities committed by the Governor of the Central Bank Arjun Mahendran by the COPE will be reviewed by economists.
The Speaker of Parliament had instructed COPE to initiate an investigation on the Governor of the Central Bank, taking into consideration the motion presented by MPs demanding his removal, citing irregularities committed by the governor over the issuing of bonds.
COPE had gathered evidence from twenty officers who were accused of irregularities, including Governor of the Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran. MP Gunesekera said that the examination of evidence concluded yesterday adding that the report will be presented within the next two weeks.
