Representatives from the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce called on President Maithripala Sirisena for a meeting on June 23, during which the President stated that it is the policy of the government to make way for the business sector to work freely devoid of any interference.
The president added that he hopes to introduce a national programme within the next two months to strengthen the national economic growth through national food production.
President Sirisena added that when taking in to account the production of the agricultural sector, food is continuing to be imported in large quantities to the country and that after five years of experience as the Minister of Agriculture, he has a plan to introduce a national programme on food production within the next two months through which the foreign exchange in the Treasury will be strengthened. He said that this programme will also benefit the farmers and the business sector, which contribute significantly to the country’s economy.
